The non-turn washer locks in place the axle of an internally-geared hub. You need one if it's going to work at all. Please examine the chart to match the washers to your type of dropouts. Certain hubs need one washer only on the non-drive side, others need one on each side. Please consult the installation manual for your hub before purchasing, all Shimano documents are available here. If you're replacing an existing part simply match the colour.
Generally Shimano parts are not interchangeable with Sturmey-Archer.
