Topcoats and basecoats for colours, metallic cold-plating

Please see our guide and FAQ for painting here.

Topcoats:

  • Spray.Bike colours are matte. The acrylic Gloss Transparent Finish adds a satin or gloss top-coat. One coat: satin / two or more coats: gloss
  • The acrylic Matte Finish adds a matte top-coat. Ideal for use on top of Spray.Bike colours. Also ideal for turning any existing gloss finish into a matte finish.
  • Ιdeal for steel, aluminium and carbon parts
  • The water-based finishing Top Wax is suitable for all bikes. Spray instructions: Do not spray directly onto the frame. Instead, spray onto a paper towel or lint-free cloth and apply gently. Creates an invisible micro-thin protective barrier for all painted metal, carbon or even wood frames. Doesn’t create shine on matte paintwork, so perfect for all Spray.Bike colours. Contains Carnauba wax. Re-apply regularly, especially after cleaning.
  • Product colour: clear

Basecoats:

  • The modern hi-tech anti-corrosive Metal Primer is designed to be used on any bare metal bicycle frameset prior to painting. Its acrylic base and white colour make it slightly easier to use on steel than the Frame Builder's Cold-Zinc. Ideal for aluminium, steel, stainless steel and titanium bicycle framesets. Provides a strong adhesion for Spray.Bike paints. Recommended number of coats: 1
  • Traditionally, steel bikes were zinc-dipped before being painted, the zinc creating a non-corrosive barrier to prevent rust and prolong the frame’s life. The Cold-Zinc spray primer honours that tradition and provides unrivalled protection against corrosion on steel bike frames. Product colour: metallic grey. 95% galvanised zinc primer. Apply internally and externally to prime raw steel tubing before painting. Recommended number of coats: 1. Drying time: 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Due to the high metal content, we strongly recommend using a mouth and nose mask when using this product
  • The Carbon clear primer is specifically designed for raw carbon fiber and resin composite bicycle framesets. Provides a strong adhesion for Spray.Bike paints. Recommended number of coats: 1. Drying time: 10-15 minutes

Metallic Platings:

  • These liquid platings dry hard and will not rub off. Can be sprayed directly onto existing paintwork. If surface is raw, use the appropriate Spray.Bike Frame Builder’s primer first. Has a slight satin finish. Use the Frame Builder’s Transparent Finish on top to protect against weathering. High real metal content. Recommended minimum coat: one. Drying time: 2 hours +.
Due to the high metal content, we strongly recommend using a mouth and nose mask when using this product

For all products:

  • Always ensure that all surfaces are completely clean and grease free. Any micro-film left from degreasers or cleaning products can create a barrier preventing Spray.Bike from adhering properly.
A pure medical alcohol is recommended for the ultimate pre-paint cleaner - but do make sure all residue is removed with absorbent kitchen paper.
NEVER use acetone or a product containing acetone, as this is guaranteed to weaken Spray.Bike, it being one of the ingredients of the paint.
  • Spray distance: at least 20 cm
  • Recommended minimum coat: one
  • Drying time between coats: 2 hours / full cure: at least 24 hours
  • Requires no post-application heat treatment

Spray.bike can only be shipped within Canada. Please select "regular parcel" (or pickup / bicycle shipping within Montréal) at checkout as ærosols cannot be shipped via air services.
